This manual incorporates practical strategies and resources for the inclusion of young people with a learning disability within community settings. All the materials and resources within the manual are based upon person–centred approaches and incorporate person–centred tools.
“This manual emphasises what we should all know; the need to focus on the positive things that children and young people with learning disabilities can bring to society.” Patricia Lewsley–Mooney, Northern Ireland’s Children’s Commissioner
This publication came about from our participation in an outreach project with Youthnet in 2011/12 which received funding from the Department of Education’s Youth Outreach funding stream managed by the Youth Council. Using this funding, our Family Support Services in Fermanagh, Bangor and Lisburn undertook a range of new activities including independence groups, volunteering opportunities and new outreach groups for young people with a learning disability.
