On the final day of our stories celebrating Volunteers’ Week, the spotlight falls on Teresa Maguire, who volunteers with our Lakeland Supported Living Service.
Teresa has volunteered with the service for just over two years and has become a valued part of the life of Breege Corrigan, one of the people we support.
Until recently, when she had to take a temporary break from her volunteering role, Teresa accompanied Breege to Mass, supported her on shopping trips and attended her church bingo group.
At Breege’s 60th birthday party she paid tribute to Teresa, describing her as “a very special person and friend.” She spoke of her heartfelt thanks and appreciation for finding “such a special volunteer.”
Breege has always enjoyed going out, but being able to enjoy activities with a friend – as opposed to her staff team – means that the experience has taken on a new meaning.
In nominating Teresa as Volunteer of the Year, Service Manager Kerry Mallon said: “Teresa is a very kind and caring person who has always given 100% to her volunteer role and has always been happy to give freely of her time and friendship when supporting Breege.”
