Day 2 of Volunteers’ Week 2015 and we have another fabulous story which highlights how a few hours a week can really make a difference to the lives of the people we support.
Bruce has been volunteering in our Windermere Supported Living Service for over 4 years. Bruce volunteers with Bill, one of the men supported by the Service. Together, the twosome love nothing more than playing games or going for a walk. Bruce is so important to Bill and plays a really big part in his life. Bill gets so excited each week when he knows Bruce is coming to visit. When asked about Bruce, Bill smiles and says: “He’s my friend!”
Having spent a long time living in hospital, Bill had a very limited circle of friends when he moved to Lisburn. He really enjoys the company of his friends and housemates in the Service but the connection he has with Bill is special. Bruce has been a pillar of strength to Bill over the years, supporting him in so many different area of his life. It is so evident to all that this friendship means so much to both men. Bruce truly is a ray of sunshine in Bill’s life.
Thank you Bruce, for all that you do for Bill.
