Our Better Together Project, with funding from the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, has recently expanded to provide direct support to carers of the young adults supported by the Project. To date, the Project has contacted carers who have given valuable feedback about how they would best like to be supported.
In addition, staff from Better Together hosted a special event for carers at The Europa Hotel prior to Christmas. This was a great opportunity for carers to relax and enjoy some well deserved rest – after all, being a carer is a 24 hour a day role and it’s not always easy for carers to find some time for themselves. The event also gave staff from the Project an opportunity to hear more valuable feedback from those who know best about what being a carer is all about. Everyone was appreciative of having their voices heard and getting time to enjoy some Christmas cheer and make connections with other carers and staff.
This was just the first step in supporting our carers and, with the feedback received, Better Together will be able to develop new strategies to provide tailored support to carers.
