Celebrating Silver!

Lakeland Family Service is extremely proud of 6 young people who have recently completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. The young people (Jordan Watson, Ciaran McGovern, Kirsty Hoey, Aoife McGerty and Chloe Monaghan) are all supported by the Service, and Niamh White is a young volunteer with the Service.

It was a beautiful sunny but cold day at our third site meeting today. There has been some delay due to the wet weather, but good progress has been made and we are now up to roof height on parts of the building.

Lives improved by a garden with a difference

Children at Willowbridge School in Enniskillen are benefiting from a specially installed sensory garden, thanks to Positive Futures.

The garden – developed with the help of The Organic Centre, Rossinver, and with financial assistance from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency – is designed to offer sensory stimulation to children with a learning disability. It was built in memory of children supported by the charity and the school who have died, including Peadar Lunney from Teemore. He died a year ago aged 16.

While the sun wasn’t out at our second site meeting today, and the builders have lost 2 days on the build due to bad weather, things are progressing well and we can now see the size and shape of each room on the ground floor.

Innovative iPad project gives people a voice

Positive Futures is giving a voice to people with a learning disability by providing them with an iPad. This innovative project enables people who have no spoken language to communicate with other people in a way that they just could not do before.
