Fermanagh couple John and Ann McCaffrey had a gem of an idea for their Ruby Wedding celebration.
Instead of presents they asked guests at their anniversary event in Donagh Clubhouse to make a donation to leading learning disability charity Positive Futures. Now, thanks to their generosity, the charity has picked up a cheque for £1,000 to support its local Autism Outreach Service and Lakeland Family Support Service.
John and Ann’s grandson, Luke Mimnagh, has benefited from both Services, which operate in the Western Health and Social Care Trust area.
Luke handed over the cheque to Melissa Hanley, his Positive Futures Autism Outreach Worker, at a presentation in Mahon’s Hotel in Irvinestown.
Melissa said: “We’re very grateful to John and Ann for their generosity in thinking of us when planning their big celebration. Donations in lieu of gifts are a great way of marking an event while making a real difference to the lives of others. We’re delighted that Luke has benefited. Thanks to this donation, other young people will benefit too.”
