Adult Placement Services
Adult Placement brings unique opportunities to a person with a learning disability - the opportunity to experience new relationships, new activities, family living and increased independence.
An "adult placement" happens when a person with a learning disability has a short break (respite) or longer stay with suitable individuals or families known as Placement Providers. Family Carers also benefit fom getting a break from the demands of caring, while Placement Providers sometimes find their experiences can be demanding but are always rewarding.
Placement Providers are assessed, independently approved and carefully 'matched' with a person with a learning disability. They can come from any background but need tolerance, understanding, flexibility, commitment and integrity.
Many Health and Social Services Trusts now recognise that Adult Placements offer a "quality" and "cost effective" response to the needs of people with a learning disability and Positive Futures is at the forefront of Development in Adult Placement in Northern Ireland.
Positive Futures has a number
of Adult Placement Services.

Principles of Supported Living
' I didn't consider myself special enough to apply, but eventually realised I had to be ordinary, understanding, patient and friendly, not amazing! ...I could never have imagined just how rewarding being a Placement Provider is.
