We have always provided 'Positive Futures' for people with a learning disability and - to reinforce the organisation's mission - our new name was formally introduced in October 2002.

Positive Futures is a Charity and "not for profit" Company (Limited by Guarantee).

At that time most services for people with a learning disability were based upon institutional models and these people tended to live in large establishments like hospitals or residential homes.

Positive Futures is gradually changing this situation, by providing new models of community based services for children, young people and adults with a learning disability and their families.

We now have services in all four of Northern Ireland's Health and Social Services Board areas and work closely with Health and Social Services Trusts in each of these regions.

Positive Futures is growing quickly.

Originally formed in 1995 and called United Response Northern Ireland, the name Positive Futures for people with a learning disablity was formally adopted in 2002 to reinforce the organisation's mission. Back in 1995 most services and over 170 people now work for our charity. We have services right across From offices in Bangor; Belfast, Lisburn, Magherafelt, Newry , Lakeland and Omagh we provide services across Northern Ireland.

Positive Futures has a clear mission and defined values. For people with a learning disability, the services we offer bring independence, dignity, respect and the opportunity to live full and valued lives within their own communities.
