Volunteering

Want to give your CV a cutting edge? Improve your social life? Maybe you are retired from work but not from life? Come and join our volunteer team!
Positive Futures places a very high value on its volunteers. They bring fresh energy and vitality, a wide range of skills, life experience and interests. Their involvement enables the organisation to achieve its mission, offering people of all ages with a learning disability the opportunity to lead fuller and more valued lives. Volunteers do this by getting involved in various roles in Positive Futures services throughout Northern Ireland.
Here are some of the ways our Volunteers support us:
- enabling children and adults with a learning disability to actively participate in a whole range of interests and activities in their own communities
- driving
- fundraising
- administrative tasks
Their involvement really does make a difference! Here are some comments parents have made about the volunteers who have supported their children...(anonymised)
About Paul, a home support Volunteer who meets Alan to play with him once a week:
"Alan works well 1:1. It takes time to build up a relationship and the right person is crucial. Paul has been fantastic. He hasn't forgetten how to play and Alan looks forward to Tuesdays when Paul comes. I have time to do 'time for me' things or just go and do my shopping."
About Alice, a homework support Volunteer:
"With Alice's help Lucy is now starting to make excellent progress in school. I love to see the two of them together and hearing what they have been doing."
Volunteering is a two way relationship...
Finding the right volunteers is very important to us and we want to ensure each volunteer finds their experience a rewarding and satisfying one. We are committed to ensuring all our volunteers receive training, support and recognition. It is also vital to us to ensure volunteers achieve their personal goals for volunteering throughout their time with us.
Follow the steps below if you would like to join our volunteer team.
How to become a volunteer
Ask yourself two questions......
1. Am I caring, friendly, responsible, enthusiastic and a good communicator?
2. Do I have time to invest in making a difference in someone's life?
If you answered yes to both these questions and are interested in joining our volunteer team then please contact Ruth Mormecha on 028 92606740 and ask for an application pack or request an Information Pack.
